What is ASIA?

ASIA stands for Association of Singapore Insurance Agents. The Association was formed on 1 Nov 2004
with the following objectives:

What are ASIA’s objectives?

  1. To oversee the interest and welfare of registered general insurance agents on a collective basis;
  2. To maintain and raise the professional standards, competency and integrity of members in their dealings with clients through continuous education and training in customer service and product knowledge;
  3. To act as a "sounding board" to which the relevant Authorities and other bodies could address issues of public interest for dialogue and discussions;
  4. To provide a platform for members to exchange views, ideas and concerns on matters affecting the general insurance industry;
  5. To update members of latest developments in the insurance industry and act as a centralised communication vehicle for dissemination of information to its members;
  6. To facilitate and organise training programmes through insurance educational bodies and the General Insurance Association for members to satisfy and ensure that the requirements of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) are met and no agents are left out.

The Association welcomes any ARB-registered insurance agent to join as a member. To get a copy of the application form, please click here.

How does the ASIA committee function?

Currently, the 18-member committee meets monthly to address issues, challenges and trends that affect general insurance agents in particular and the general insurance industry in general.

As most agents would probably know, the new Agency Framework and Premium Framework come into effect on 1 May 2005. The Association takes an active interest in soliciting the collective views of agents on the ground and also engages the relevant bodies such as GIAS (General Insurance Association of Singapore) to get a better perspective of such new guidelines from the macro perspective.

The Association is also in the process of arranging for relevant training for its members as a part of the ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
