MFA Spokesman's Comments on Situation in Thailand

 

In response to media queries, the MFA Spokesman said:


"The situation in Thailand remains uncertain. Our Embassy in Bangkok and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are closely monitoring the situation.

Singaporeans intending to travel to Thailand should closely monitor news on developments there. If they decide to travel to Thailand , they should register with the Ministry through its website at www.mfa.gov.sg. This will enable MFA and our Embassy to contact Singaporeans and render them the necessary assistance.

Singaporeans already in Thailand should also closely monitor news on the situation there. They should take the necessary precautions for their personal safety. During this period of uncertainty, Singaporeans are advised to monitor the news, remain in a safe location and avoid areas where there is risk of disturbance.

Singaporeans who are concerned about the safety of relatives and friends in Thailand can contact MFA or the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok at the following numbers:

FROM ONE OF THE INSURER

 

In view of the political situation in Thailand , you are likely to receive many enquiries from your client. The current situation in Thailand is deemed as a military uprising / coup d’etat and MFA has issued a press release, which is included below for your easy reference.

 

We mentioned that whilst war is excluded, our insured will be covered if caught as an innocent bystander. We are pleased to clarify the coverage as follows:

 

1.      Insureds already in Thailand and caught as an innocent bystander - he will be covered for Death, Permanent Disablement, Medical Expenses including Emergency Medical Evacuation and Repatriation resulting from losses arising from this event

 

2.      Insureds that has not departed for the trip yet

-          There is no coverage for losses arising from this situation under all section since a travel advisory has been issued

-          If the insured decides to cancel the trip, we will provide FULL Refund if the policy is cancelled within the next 7 working days, and thereafter subject to a minimum charge of S$15  

 

3.      Clients intending to purchase coverage now for their trip to Thailand - There is no coverage for losses arising from this situation under all section since a travel advisory has been issued
